sounded and then on the floor of the House the Statler Brothers sang a cappella a spine-tingling rendition of The Star Spangled Banner. The Delegates were on their feet again, voices raised in shouts of jov.
“Not bad having the Statler Brothers for your opening act.” later remarked Woodstock Mayor William C. Moyers. He, Mr. and Mrs. Leo L. Snarr, Ms. Betty Page and Ms. Alma F. Hottle, Chairman of the Woodstock 250th Anniversary’ Committee and I were next to “take the center aisle” to have the clerk read a joint resolution I sponsored honoring the county seat of Shenandoah County and its rich history.
We were, in fact and in show business terms, following the Statlers. I alluded to that fact in mv opening remarks. The Delegates, though a bit worn down from their clamor over the Statlers. gave a warm reception to my guests on the floor of the House.
