Special to the Rappahannock News
The sound of music filled The Theater at Washington on Sunday, Feb. 24. The concert was created by a talented ensemble of 14 student musicians from elementary and high schools in Rappahannock County.
This annual musical event, sponsored by the Lions Club, represented our participation in the state-wide program of music competitions honoring the memory of the great American composer, James A. “Jimmy” Bland, best known for “Cairy Me Back to Old Virginny”.
The young musicians delighted a capacity audience comprised of parents, students, teachers and friends, including many Lion music lovers with a varied program ranging from musical comedy, popular and classical selections. Many of the performers had entertained in former bland contests and displayed the confidence and poise acquired through practice and experience.
