At Rappahannock County Elementary we started serving breakfast in the fall of 1989, we serve an average of 80 to 90 students per day in our breakfast program, as compared to 400 to 450 students daily in our lunch program.
A typical breakfast at Rappahannock County Elementary School is: a choice of - cheese omelet with toast, juice and milk or cereal/milk, toast and juice.
Some parents bring their children to school and have breakfast with them. They have told us, that with their work schedules, this an opportunity to spend quality time with their child during the week.
A few years ago on the last day of school, Mrs. Patricia Jenkins, the Cafeteria Manager, asked a little boy if he was excited about this being the last day of school. His response was “No mamn’, there is no one at home to fix my breakfast.” The children appreciate what Mrs. Jenkins does for them and are anxious to see her each morning.
