* Saturday, March 9: Second Saturday Hike Destination: Hazel Country, including areas around the Hazel River and Hazel Mountain and likely will include some bushwhacking. Meet at Mountainside Market, 987-9100. between 8 and 8:30 a.m. Bring nourishment for self and layerable clothing. Return mid-late afternoon. Level: moderate.
* Tuesday, March 26: Moonlight hike of Old Rag mountain. Meet at upper lot for Old Rag on Nethers side between 6:30-7 p.m. Bring nourishment for self and layerable clothing. Return: ? Level: Moderate to difficult...not for wimps.
Production planned
The Culpeper United Methodist Church will present the fifth annual production of He's Alive! on Sunday, March 24 at 8:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and at 7 p.m. The production will depict the birth, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. Admission is free with a love offering accepted. Groups are welcome. Once seats are full the doors are closed, so come early. Babysitting will be provided for small children.
Fodderstack race day set
The 24th annual Fodderstack race will be held on Saturday, April 20. Registration fees remain the same at $20 per person. For additional information call 675-5330.
Contestants needed
The Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Department is seeking young ladies between the ages of one and 21 to compete in Little Miss, 1-6: Junior Miss 7-14 and Miss Honorary Fire Chief 1521. Clinic will be open March 6
The Rappahannock Free Clinic, a local operation of the Fauquier Free Clinic Inc., is currently open on the first, third and fifth Wednesdays of each month. The clinic will be open Wednesday, March 6 and not again until March 20.

Participants sought
The Salem Ruritan Club is seeking sixth and seventh grade students from Rappahannock County to participate in the annual Oratorical Contest. First-place winners in the final contest will each receive a $500 scholarship, following graduation from high school for a college/university or a trade or vocational school.
Applications may be obtained from the school or by contacting Calvin Lightfoot at 825-8233. “What Patriotism Means To Me” has been selected as the topic of this year's contest. Contestants must prepare their own material. For additional information call Nancy Garrett at 547-3985.

Volunteer training to begin
Hospice of the Rapidan spring training class for volunteers begins Tuesday, March 12. Anyone interested in patient or non-patient volunteer activities with Hospice of the Rapidan is encouraged to participate. Volunteers are needed from all counties that Hospice of the Rapidan serves: Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock.
