artificial pond right now (Sunday, March 3>. The wood frog is a medium-sized frog that makes a strange, loud “clucking" sound. It lives on land most of the year, but travels to pools of water in early spring where it “clucks” to attract others of its species.
This breeding ritual is usually over within a few days, and these mysterious animals then return to the dry woods, living beneath the leaves, w here you’ll never, ever find them, no matter how hard you try.
But the large congregations when they are breeding in early spring are quite conspicuous. They will get quiet and hide if you try to approach them. You will see lots of their tadpoles in this pond when you come to camp in July.
