was no room for it to expand in the Ibwn of Washington, and that a move to the commercial area was appropriate.

Ron Frazier remarked that it appeared as though the buildings in the development would amount to no more than ten percent of the land and that that was "quite an accomplishment."

Roger Welch expressed support for the plan because it does "exactly what by Roger Welch, and unanimously approved.

Other activities

• Richard Smith, Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Rappahannock County Public Schools (RCPS), presented the Board with information on the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program. He noted that the school system is currently preparing an application to enter the IB Program and, that if successful, RCPS would become an affiliate.

He also mentioned that the current Eighth Graders would be the first eligible for an IB Diploma. Mr. Smith discussed the enhancement of standards and other benefits of program participation, and the fact that Rappahannock would opt fort open enrollment, thus allowing any and all students to take one or more IB courses, even if they were not seeking an IB diploma.

• Bob Moore of VDOT provided the Board with an assess-, ment of the impact of the Commonwealth s budget problems on road improvements in the County. He said that it was likely that VDOT’s budget would be cut by one-third, and that "the only project safely funded," other than those ongoing, is the Route 1001 drainage project in Sperryville and that would commence late in 2002.

• George Rosenbaum, who is acting as Chair of the Tbwn of Washington "Fourth of July Committee." presented the Board with a request to again underwrite resident parking costs by contributing $3,000. Chairman Estes said that it was, "unfortunately, a very tight budget year," and appeared disinclined to support the event again.
