Mr. Jones recently announced that he will get his message to the electorate by holding a series of thirteen town hall meetings during the last three weeks of the campaign.

“I promised to run an old-fashioned grassroots campaign, and that is what we have done,” he said. “This is a part of that effort, as we enter the home stretch.”

The first meeting was scheduled for October 18 at the LaPrade Library in Richmond, and a November 1 meeting is scheduled for Rappahannock and Page County voters at 7 p.m. at the Page County Courthouse in Luray.

The political pundits have been consistent in showing that the 7th is a “safe” Republican district and that Mr. Cantor is assured of a clear victory.

But if some of the trends and private polls can be believed, the clarity of that prospect grows somewhat dimmer.
