From 1959-62 he was the U. S. Air Attache to Peru and Bolivia, and from 1962 until his retirement in 1966, he served in various intelligence assignments.
As a civilian, Lyle served as a director at NASA during the Lunar Landing years (1967-72), and in 1984 founded Federal Testing Laboratories, of which he is president and CEO.
Lyle came to Rapphannock County in 1966, and purchased his present home near Ben Venue in 1972. Over the years, he has built the property into a 1500-acre cattle farm.
