Painful cut
The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles has had an office in nearby Warrenton for at least the past 50 years. And as pointed out by a caller from Amissville this week, it makes no sense to eliminate this branch, in light of the fact that the area it serves is growing, and the staff that works there is probably the best in the state. So why is this vital, state-of-the-art service center being shut down? We are well aware of the state budget crisis, and understand that there will be even more painful cuts in state-provided services. But there had to be other options to a complete shutdown of that office. Were any considered? Perhaps when the General Assembly meets again, our representatives can re-evaluate the situation, both in terms of necessity and customer service.
But even if they decide to re-open an office closer to eastern Rappahannock, it will take a long time to replace what we’ve gotten used to having.
