In the same year, he married Nancy Jane Copenhaver, of Bristol and joined Jackson Lee Fray to practice law with Fray & Hudson in Culpeper.
He practiced law writh his firm 52 years, retiring in 2001.
During his law career he also served as a member of the Culpeper Town Council, was a founding member of the Country Club of Culpeper, Inc., chaired the Seventh District Ethics Committee of the Virginia State Bar, served as a board member and later as Chairman of the Board of Jefferson Savings & Loan Association and also service on the statewide Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Board.
