John Hager, former lieutenant governor of Virginia, says he didn’t know what to expect when he accepted an offer from Democratic Gov. Mark Warner to be his assistant for the new Governor’s Office of Commonwealth Preparedness.
“I found out in a hurry that it would amount to a lot,” he said. “It keeps me busy all day, and I think the agency is doing much to help protect Virginians.”
Hager, a Republican, took the job after he was urged to do so by U. S. Senators John Warner and George Allen, and other fellow Republicans.
“I haven’t lost my identity, and I still attend a considerable number of party functions,” he said.
