Murphy and Rogers say the incidents can be as small as someone throwing food or batteries at highway workers as ihey go by, to clipping a worker, or actually the inability to stop in time as a work zone comes up.

"People are flying by these zones at upwards of 70 miles and hours," Rogers said. “You can’t react if you are a worker, and you can't stop if you are a driver."
