Contents of Salem House store donated to Wakefield’s auction

Wakefield Country Day School has announced a generous donation of the contents of the Salem House store in Madison, Va. for its annual spring auction on April 12.
According to the school’s auction committee, the donation was made by WCDS grandparent Anne Cabaniss, former owner of the Salem House store which specialized in current and classic books and imported clothing.
Items from Salem House will be offered at substantially reduced prices at the auction which begins at 6 p.m. at the school in Flint Hill.
This is an opportunity to purchase beautiful imported cashmere and lambs wool sweaters, fisherman knit pullovers, ski sweaters and hand smocked Easter outfits for children from this large inventory.
The Salem House collection of current title books will be sold at 50 percent off the cover price.
A diversity of additional items have been collected from the school community, shops and artists in the area for the silent and live auction.
Items range from the practicality of a wood burning stove to the luxury of an end table handpainted by local artist and WCDS parent Robin Purnell.
A handmade quilt, jewelry by local designers, artwork, household items, restaurant dinners, hotel and bed and breakfast certificates, local services and books will be available for purchase.
Theme baskets and handmade items from classrooms are a popular feature of the auction as well.
