“Writing allows young people to express on paper what is happening in their heads. It increases their vocabulary, enhances their articulation, helps them formulate ideas and stimulates their imaginations,” she said.
“If you can keep a notepad and a pen close to your bed, you can record all those feelings and thoughts you have right before you wake up — one of the most creative times for some people. The ability to capture your thoughts, at any moment, on paper, is powerful.”
Arbelbide, who formerly taught health and physical education in Alaska, Oregon, Japan and Kansas, wants to hear from children and people of all ages, about their favorite books and about books they would like to have in the library for research purposes as well as pure reading enjoyment.
She encourages everyone to take a proactive role in their library by entering book titles into the library’s suggestion box, or by simply giving her a call.
