of black women are considered overweight or obese compared with 47 percent of white women. Sixty-two percent of white men are considered overweight or obese compared to 58 percent of black men. The proportion of overweight children has tripled since 1980.
We can reverse these numbers in two wavs," said Jody Stones, manager of the Virginia Department of Healths Cardiovascular Health Project. "On an individual level we can increase our personal commitment to healthy eating and increase our level of physical activity. On the community level we can work with school and community leaders to create environments that support healthy eating and physical activity."
