Hager sought the office of Governor in 2001, after serving four years as lieutenant governor. But a GOP convention gave the nomination to Attorney General Mark Earley, who was defeated by Mark Warner in the general elections.
Though a considerable number think Hager might have given Warner stiffer opposition, Hager says he does not have the time or inclination to reflect on what might have been.
However, he notes that while he is perfectly satisfied with what he is doing now, it is not inconceivable that he might decide to seek the office of lieutenant governor again in 2005.
