Taking as its theme the scripture from Ecclesiastes 3 that there is a “Time to Weep, A Time to Laugh,” the Washington Baptist Church held its 9th annual Variety Show on Saturday evening with funds specifically designated to help the victims of South Asia’s recent and catastrophic tsunami.
Rev. Phil Bailey, pastor of the church, also reminded an enthusiastic audience that filled nearly every seat in The Theatre at Washington that it was also a time to make merry and have a good time.
Unquestionably, a proverbial “good time was had by all!”
The show more than lived up to its billing as a “fun event for the whole family” with puppets, dances, comedy skits and music. In this evening of inspiration, music and laughter, a “cast of thousands” (seniors, adults, teenagers, and children — some almost toddlers) entertained the audience as well as themselves as they played, sang, danced and acted in 15 skits, including song, comedy, pantomime, and puppetry.
Leading off the evening, the Washington Baptist Praise Team sang “Turn, Turn, Turn” whose chorus echoed the theme of the evening: “lb everything/There is a season/And a Time for every purpose under heaven.” The church’s adult choir capped off the
