Compensation increases for employees would include a 3.5 percent increase to base salaries, a 1.5 percent longevity raise, and adjustments to the years of experience teacher’s salary scale. The increase would come to about $360,000.
An increase in health insurance costs of 15 percent to maintain current employer contribution levels will require another $169,000, in the budget and a required increase for Virginia Retirement System will cost another $48,000. Last, but improving

He showed that the starting teacher salaries at Rappahannock County Public schools was $30,188 per year in the 2003-2004 school year, but increased to $31,546 for 2004- 2005.
Instructional and Athletic enhancements are also in the budget.
Plans include phasing in additional positions for the 2005- 2006 school year, phasing in the Cambridge Program, and providing Spanish for grades K-5,.
Also increasing stipends for after school by providing athletic, academic, fine arts and career preparation coaches over a two year period, and providing after-school tutors, and providing activity buses.
In addition, new textbooks for English and foreign languages are in the works, along with increasing financial support for students to participate in dual enrollment programs, purchasing of school materials. equipment, athletic uniforms.
The budget also includes adding a state-required Tbchnology Resource Tfeacher. Total costs for these enhancements are estimated at $145,000.
