By Ruth Purnell • “V Rappahannock News Staff Writer While mystery surrounds the origins of Valentine’s Day, the month of February has been^ embraced since the middle ages as a time for lovers, romance and affectionate feelings. Perhaps Valentine did send the first “from your Valentine” greeting to the jailer’s daughter as he awaited sure execution in a Roman jail for secretly performing marriages. Through the ages, Feb. 14 is a day to celebrate love with cards, chocolates, flowers and gifts but mainly with our hearts. The Rappahannock News asked third graders at Rappahannock County Elementary School to shed some light on this magical emotion called love.’ They had several ideas of their own on what Love is all about this year for Valentine’s Day. ;■ The children represented are the students of Lois Markee, Shelly Shankle, Cindy Simpson and Linda Way.
