Safety

Also important are safety enhancements which include increasing the replacement of buses from one to two each year and providing additional bus cameras.

The school currently has two buses that have gone beyond the 200,000 mile mark. Costs are estimated at $58,000.

Revenue

The roughly $11.5 million dollar budget has several revenue sources, including:

• The Commonwealth of Virginia, from which the county hopes to receive $198,503;

• The federal government which the board projects will contribute $9,275;

• The local area; the board will ask the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors for $985,870; and

• Roughly $19,944 will come from other funds. And then there is the $4 million loan.

The state’s funding formula does not favor Rappahannock County because “Inflated property values create a perceived wealth of the county,” said Chappell.
