Sponsored by the Piedmont Foundation, students in building trades classes at Piedmont Vocational Technical Center are building their second house, this one is a large three- bedroom with kitchen, family room living room, dining room, two baths, garage, deck and front porch. “Everything here (at the center) is geared to getting a job,” explained principal John Bodine during a tour of the complex on Monday arranged as part of Vocational Education Week. The school has hit high gear in its goal of preparing students for jobs. According to Bodine, placement of young men and women who graduate from Piedmont’s two year training programs runs from 70-100 percent, depending on the course. Two pickup trunks owned by the same person have disappeared or been stolen in the past month. The first was reported several weeks ago and the second theft occurred late Sunday night or early Monday morning from a parking place in the town of Washington on Main Street. The 1979 Ford Ranger, red and white, was parked near the apartment building next to the post office.
