Douglas “Lee” Leroy Ricketts Jr. of Washington was killed on Sunday January 15, when the All Terrain Vehicle he was driving collided with one driven by his lifelong friend Glenn Tharp of Castletorf

Tharp, who also sustained serious injuries in the accident, is in stable condition and awake and alert at Fairfax Hospital. The two 18-year-olds were riding their ATVs with friends on private property in Castleton, and had separated to ride trails in a wooded area near Hawkins Lane. Not aware of their proximity to one another, Ricketts and Tharp each approached a Curve in the trail from opposite ends. Despite the lack of foliage on the trees, State troopers investigating the accident described the curve as having “a very limited sight distance.” Unable to see
