Musicians and audiences around the world will be celebrating the 250th anniversary of the birth of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart throughout 2006.
Mozart was bom on January 27, 1756.
The Theatre at Washington, Virginia will mark the 250th anniversary on January 28, 2006 the day after the anniversary, with an exceptional concert of sonatas which Mozart wrote for keyboard four hands. Kenneth Slowik, Artistic Director of the Smithsonian Chamber Music Society, who is well known to Theatre audiences, will be joined by Naoko Takao, the fine Japanese pianist who is now living in this country.
The concert on Saturday, January 28, begins at 8 p.m.
Slowik and Takao will play sonatas written by Mozart to be played as duets on one instrument. Two of the sonatas were written while Mozart was still a teenager, living in Salzburg, to play with his gifted sister Nannerl.
