the House Clerk administered the oath of office to the 100 members of the House of Delegates. My folks watched the swearing in, but not from the gallery, as would have been the case in the House chamber. Family and friends of the 17 new members of the House watched in a nearby room on closed circuit TV as we swore our oath. We will legislate without a hitch in the Patrick Henry Building, but I look forward to my “return” next year to the historical House chamber in the Capitol of Virginia.
I am pleased that visitors from back in the district have begun arriving in Richmond. The evening after my swearing in I went out to dinner with three friends from home. Shenandoah County’s Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Amy Tisinger, Commissioner of Revenue Kathy Black and Deputy Clerk of Circuit Court Sarona Irvin came down to check out the proceedings. Thursday, I had a productive chat in my office with Mike Leake, president of the Rappahannock National Bank. Mike was in town for the annual “Banker’s Day at the General Assembly.” I have also talked on the phone with a number of the supervisors from Page County and look forward to meeting with members of the boards of supervisors and
