Sperryville residents may soon be without a place to grab breakfast on Main Street. The early-morning crowd’s routine will change now that the Apple Hill Bakery building, which is owned by Wayne and Dorothy Waller, is up for sale.
The bakery opened in November 2004 and nestled its way into the hearts (and stomachs) of Rappahannock County residents by serving pastries, , soups, sandwiches and ice cream that drew rave reviews from locals.
Apple Hill is run by the Wallers’ daughter and son-inlaw, Eileen and Lucky Yilmaz, who are looking for a change of pace from the late-to-bed, earlyto-rise bakery lifestyle. The young couple wants to start a family and Lucky is finishing work on a master’s degree in business administration.
“It’s a lot of hours and they can’t realistically start a family or finish his MBA with the kind of hours they put in down there,” Dorothy said.
The bakery will close eventually, Dorothy said, but the final date has not been set. Wayne said the asking price for the building is $250,000.
“We have not set a limit exactly, but a lot of the timing is up to the kids when they feel they really need to get going with what they want to do,” she said.
