“All of these people don’t have Main Street storefronts, but they can provide experiences beyond the park,” she said.
The five-county Rappahannock-Rapidan Regional Commission, which provides planning resources and fosters cooperation among Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock counties, has recognized Sperryville as a vibrant place in selecting the village to host its annual Living Tbwns conference.
The one-day workshop is expected to attract some 100 people to the village this summer to learn about new and better ways to maintain smalltown character and successful businesses in the region.
A committee is scheduled to meet Monday to continue planning the event, which last year drew 107 people to Gordonsville in Orange County.
Adolfi is optimistic that the conference will be a catalyst for creative thinking among Spenyville and county business owners.
“The hope is it will give us a jump-start in an organized way to start tackling a discussion about how can we preserve our community, the spedalness of it, and at the same time increase our revenue,” she said.
