A 4.5 percent pay increase for all Rappahannock Public School employees was the focus of the 2007-2008 proposed budget to the school board last Thursday.
“People drive our business, people are our business, and our children are our business,” said Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Bob Chappell noting that 78 percent of the proposed budget is devoted to personnel.
“Our people work with parents and members of the community to try and provide the best education possible for our kids,” he added.
The proposed package estimates the total budget at $12,313,085.00, nearly a 5 percent increase from last years total of $11,732,992. Of that amount, $8,510,953.00 worth of Rappahannock County tax dollars will be requested for fiscal year 2007-2008. It amounts to a 6.68 percent increase from last year’s budget amounting to a difference of $532,564.
This year Chappell is proposing an additional $333,711 for personnel salaries and projecting an increase of $166,475, the schools contribution to employee health insurance.
