door, I talked gently to him and much meowing back and forth ensued. I had the feeling that he remembered me and was once again hopeful that I’d give him food.

While petting him with one hand, I was reaching into a big bag of Friskies and put a big handful on the stoop where he was resting. He ate every single pellet and wanted more. While Adam was distracted by his first good meal in days, I reached back behind him and closed the cat door. At last, Adam was mine—even if for a few more minutes!

As I continued to talk to Adam, I reached for the phone and was finally able to locate Alexia at Griffin Tavern through mutual friends. Alexia dropped everything and rushed right over with her carrier in hand to find me still “chatting” with Adam. After some “gentle” entreaties this time and making friends all over again with her beloved pet, Ms. Morrison gently held Adam once again and we put him into his carrier with food and off they went into the night to his own home. We hugged each other with emotion at our success.

First stop the next day was a visit to Rose Hill Veterinarian Clime where Adam was pronounced in good condition despite his 20 some day ordeal in the wild. For a 16 pound cat, he had lost almost a quarter of his normal weight but now is gaining it back again with ample food proffered with prodigious amounts of tender loving care.

In his interim quarters, he is being kept in a very large cage in the garage until he feels “at home” with his new family—
