“It has been great from day one. Sperryville has a long tradition of successful businesses,” he said. “There’s been a steady progression of business in Sperryville and investment in Sperryville.”
He noted that Main Street has been improved, sidewalks have been installed and the overall quality of the real estate in the village has risen.
The investment has made the village more pedestrian friendly, Haley said, and that attracts shoppers and diners.
Thompson said he has also seen an increased level of cooperation between business owners to make Sperryville and Rappahannock as a whole the kind of place they want it to be. That means finding a way to improve sales while following the county’s comprehensive plan to maintain the county’s rural character.
“As businesses, particularly in Sperryville, we want to find a way to strike a balance between growth and success in business,” Thompson said.
