This week Rappahannock County 911 Emergency
Coordinator Richie Burke announced plans to
bring back the Fourth of July fireworks.
Burke has already assembled a committee consisting of himself, Gary Settle, Mike Leake, Greg Williams,'Eddie Wayland and Greg Wayland. They’ve got some big plans and are counting on the support of local individuals, groups and businesses to help launch the return of a community event that has been sorely missed.
Longtime resident Bill Fletcher is taking on the role of host in a big way as well by offering 100 acres of his property to hold the celebration on those rolling hills off of Route 522.
Setback requirements demand more room than the lawns of Avon Hall and this new location will offer plenty of room for growth...and plenty of room to park your cars.
Bringing back the fireworks is a great thing particularly if the community gets behind their efforts and contributes not only donations but perhaps some of your time to help with food, games, vendors or other activities.
As the months move along toward July, think of those open skies growing darker and then lit up in a dazzling display.
It s been over six years since Rappahannock County has been able to celebrate with its own Fourth of July event..
Time to turn on the lights.
