More than 500 people attended an anti-power line fundraiser at Wakefield School near The Plains last weekend in Fauquier County.
The “Power Line Block Party,” which included a barbecue dinner, a band, a live auction and silent auction, took in $150,000, Larson estimated.
Tickets cost $100 apiece.
“We could have had 1,000 folks, but there wasn’t the room,” said Doug Larson, vice president of the Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC), which sponsored the event. “We had a waiting list of hundreds.”
