“We lived in hard times, but we made it,” John said. He recalled walking to work in the apple orchards during the early years, working for 10 cents an hour.

“I worked out there too you know,” Barbara added.

“When all the work was done, we didn’t do much or nothin’,” John said. “When you work on the farm all day you get tired.”
