Last Tuesday, the company identified its “preferred” route, which runs much farther south than the original alternatives it suggested through the northern Piedmont along Interstate 66. Proposed in November, original options cut through Frederick, Warren, Fauquier, Prince William and Loudoun counties.
Despite Dominion’s decision to identify the southern route as its top option, the alternatives through the northern Piedmont “are still on the table,” Larson said.
Dominion’s preferred path parallels an existing transmission line corridor through part of Rappahannock, southern Fauquier, Culpeper, Warren and Prince William counties. The company would need to acquire additional right-of-way to make this option work.
“The message the other night was (the southern option) is not an acceptable route,” Larson said. “We’re going to fight it, that this fight will go on and we’re hanging as a community to oppose this.”
