Senior Steven Butler played third base last season but could catch. Jenkins also may move sophomore Chase Tupper from shortstop to catcher.
Jenkins said that Settle, Barron and outfielders Jason Wiese, Charles Crawford, Tim Fitzmorris and Jonathan Butler will give Rappahannock County some experience that developed at the junior varsity level.
Wiese, Crawford, Fitzmorris and Butler join returnees Nathan Hartshorn and Erick Montague who will play in the outfield. Czekaj, when not pitching, could be in center field. Butler, who is a left-hander, will start in either left or right field.
While pitching is Rappahannock’s top strength, look for the Panthers to utilize their speed on the bases. Montague, Czekaj, Tupper and Russell run thd bases well.
“We’ve got some guys who can flat out fly,” Jenkins said, “but it’s all going to come down to hitting the ball.”
The Panthers open their season Tuesday afternoon at Warren County.
