cemed these scientists were about making labor unnecessary. There’s no stopping the robotics revolution, they said, but when robots fill practically every “job,” whatever will people do? And how will they ever earn a living? The Roboticists didn’t seem to realize that in these circumstances “earning a living” no longer makes sense. If robots can create the wealth we need, then it could be like Athens. We could spend our days reasoning with one another, writing plays, exploring the universe, creating new mathematics, painting, acting, dancing, traveling, competing in sports, debating the best uses of our investment dollars, thinking about and participating in the body politic, figuring out how to reorganize our industries so as to leave a lighter foot print on he earth, seeking truth, and virtue, and God. And how much better than Athens in that this idyllic life would not be based upon the labor of slaves, but upon the inherited technology of previous generations.
Saneism is pointing towards Atheris not only in extending to every citizen the freedom to do that which we choose, but also by giving to every citizen an equal power of investment. Today investment decisions are made by affluent individuals, banks and existing corporations. It would be interesting to see how the pattern of production changes under the aegis of all the people.
By confusing Saneism with Socialism, Demaris seems to think that innovative entrepreneurs “would have to convince some central authority of the merit of their ideas.” On the contrary, the people they have to convince are their fellow citizens for we are the ones who have the investment dollars.
A citizenry that understands the degree to which life on earth is now threatened, a citizenry that cares enough about the earth to save it, and therefore votes for a Sane Economy even as they know that, in so doing, at least half of them will be accepting lower incomes, would bring about a very different world - a world I would love to see.
