Improvements on
the river front
In addition to the riparian buffer project at Cliff Miller’s SchoolHouse, other land owners along the Thornton River have begun to make a variety of changes. Most recently, a crew of men from the Reyes Stone Works in Linden, Virginia have been erecting a beautiful stone wall behind 23 Main Street. Take a look as you drive by on 211! Apple Hill Bakery has that wonderful back deck where we all ei\joyed Monday night music along the river last summer and Old Rag Gallery has a spacious deck...a natural spot for Plein Air artists! Our river is one of Sperryville’s most beautiful assets. The efforts by both private land owners and RappFLOW to preserve, beautify and make the river more accessible are. much appreciated. You can help by contacting RappFLOW and volunteering to “adopt” maintenance of a portion of the model project and/or finding out how to improve your river banks.
WiFi in Sperryville
Rae’s is the first public facility to offer WiFi in Sperryville. While enjoying her good food, you can now bring along your laptop to catch up on email and research the internet. Of course, this is the slower season and we can take our time, but we will have to be mindful of reasonable stays when the crowds of tourists return.
Many rural communities have begun to plan to make entire communities a wifi hot spot. The intention is to make it possible for businesses to relocate and find services in place in rural areas (e.g., the Eastern Shore of Maryland). We are fortunate to already have this capability in place...at least in the village and immediate environs.
