It has been wonderful to hear stories of
Rediviva from Don Audette’s recent article in the News. Having lived in Gid Brown Hollow for 25 years, Fve often wondered how this empty place got such a strong name. Not old enough to witness the glory days of Rediviva, I do remember how much better it looked before the four lanes carved through—despite the trash dump.
Before the bridge’s abrupt closing, a handful of neighbors used the bridge for daily trespasses as well as the occasional pedestrian or cyclist seeking refuge off the highway. It is understandable this old bridge—having been neglected for years— is no longer safe for motorized vehicles, but what about pedestrians and cyclists. ITie Class III barrier recently placed inhibits even a walk across it. While the bridge’s closing affects only a few cars, the stout barrier—not the bridge—is offensive to many. “That makes me mad,” said Jackie
