Davy Tbrrance finished fifth at the State Level wrestling at 112 lbs. Torrence lost his opening match to William Saunders from Radford High School, who went on to finish second. Torrance won his next two matches against James Jones of Rural Retreat High School, and Lucas Tyler from Washington and Lee. Torrance also won his third match in a tight decision of 3-2 against David Brumett from Madison High School before losing to Ryan Lowery from Northwood High School. Torrance’s final match was against Tristian Rion from Buffalo Gap High School, winning a close match at 8-7 to finish fifth. “Davy did very well,” said Brown, “112 was a tough weight class this year.”
Foreign exchange student Arne Utne proved he was competitive, finishing sixth at the state level. This was Utne’s first year competing as a wrestler. Utne wrestled at 189 lbs., beginning with a match against Jared Conour from Essex County High School pinning him in 3 minutes and 56 seconds. He followed the match with a 8-3 loss to Matthew Philips from Castlewood High School. Utne bounced back by beating Mike Anderson from Patrick Henry High School, pinning him in 54 seconds, and barely won against Steve Parks from George Mason High School scoring 5-4. Utne then lost to Nicholas Keel from Chatham High School and Emmanuel Alfred from Covington High School.
