set of towers, so there’s a great impact to the landowners, and we understand that,” Smatlak said. ‘‘But we think there’s less impact to those landowners because there’s an existing transmission line there already.”
Smatlak estimated that half of the towers would become five to 10 feet higher.
“If you’re going through the 66 corridor, you’re going to be in the right of way of VDOT,” Supervisor Steve Nixon (West Fairfax District) said. “Wouldn’t you have less impact there, because you have an established right-ofway?”
But the supervisors were also angry that the power line was to serve Northern Virginia, not Culpeper.
“If you and I are getting in a car, and we were going to California, we’re not going to drive to Canada and cut back down,” Rosenberger said. “And that’s what you’re doing with this line.”
