The Rappahannock Varsity Boy’s soccer team has been sharpening their ball skills this week, playing tight scrimmages at the soccer field behind the middle school. “Hopefully we can win district this year, Head Varsity coach Shay Bell said, “We have a number of strong players.” Bell is beginning his sixth year coaching boy’s soccer this year.
This year the team will have four seniors, three of which are foreign exchange students. The team lost about five seniors who graduated last year, however Assistant Coach Preston Will noted that there were a lot of juniors on the team this year together with a strong group of freshman. “There is a good amount of boys who came out this year,” he said, estimating that there would be about 22 athletes on the team.
Last year the Panther boys finished third in the district with a record of 8-8. The boys will play their first soccer game on the new athletic field on Thursday, (Tbrnght.) The game will start at 4:00 p.m. and will be a scrimmage against Culpeper High School.
