By the time the track was ready for the final surface, Hord explained, the track no longer had the direct sunlight needed for the curing process. “A June or July sky is different than an October sky,” he said. Hord added that the angle of the sun and the close proximity of trees surrounding the athletic complex made conditions unfavorable for the final surfacing.
Precision Sports Surfaces recommended that a wide swath of trees be removed in order for sunlight to shine directly on the track. The school board, however, moved slowly to include an additional cost, and apparent miscommunication between the board and Precision Sports Surfaces
