county resident and artist Merrill Strange and have a particular Rappahannock flair to them, will be awarded to the first three finishers in each age category, with a fourth prize being awarded in the 12 & under category. In the open categories for males and females first prizes only will be awarded. In addition a $500 cash prize will be awarded for the fastest runner who breaks an existing course record. The course records right now stand at 31 minutes 26 seconds for men and 36 minutes 46 seconds for women. In the event that both records are broken, the cash will be divided into two awards of $250.
An award will also be presented to the most senior runner completing the course. And finally there is the Eva L. Smith Memorial for the first Rappahannock County male and female resident to finish the course.
There will be commemorative T-shirts awarded to the first 250 runners who complete the race.
So, as the snow starts to melt away, get out your running shoes and go out and practice for this fun event. Spread the word to your friends and colleagues and invite them to participate.
