If you’re winding your way along Route 6 lit (Laurel Mills Road) off of U.S. 211, it won’t take you too long until you come to the Laurel Mills Store.

It sits prominently by the side of the road with an American Flag blowing in the breeze. A short flight of stairs that leads you into the store will take you back in time.

Back to the time when you could find just about everything you needed in one place, there were neighbors to visit while you shopped, and the owners were friendly and knew you by name.

For those and other reasons, Castle ton’s Laurel Mills Store garnered the coveted “Best Country Store” recognition in this year’s Best in Virginia Readers’ Choice Awards sponsored by the magazine Cooperative Living.
