Third time’s a felony

Thornton Lee Costello, of 34 Huntly Road, was charged with driving while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license on July 31.

The 56-year-old man was stopped by Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Angela Deavers at 11:23 a.m. on Lee Highway. The DWI charge is Costello’s third in 10 years, thus qualifying the offense as a felony.

A man on Piedmont Avenue near the Town of Washington called the sheriff’s office at 6:25 p.m. on July 31 to report that the steps on his Peterbilt tractor-trailer were missing.

The man said he hadn’t noticed them missing that morning, but they were gone by the early evening. He estimated the value of the stairs to be $600.

deer collision

A motorcycle driver was taken to Warren Memorial Hospital after his bike hit a deer Friday evening on Dearing Road near the intersection with Riley Hollow Road.

The incident was reported to the sheriff’s office at 8:59 p.m.

The deer was killed in the collision and the motorcycle sustained roughly $1,000 in damage.
