CULPEPER - No team has repeated as Apple Valley Baseball League champions since the Red Devils joined the league six years ago.
On Sunday, Culpeper will try to become the first.
Last weekend, the Red Devils advanced to the Apple Valley Baseball League Championship Series by defeating top-seeded Rappahannock 1814 in a wild affair on Sunday.
The Red Devils jumped all over the No. 1 seeded Monarchs with three runs in the top of the first off a two RBI double by Danny Crane and RBI single by Henry Wolfe.
But the Monarchs responded as Jameson Jarvis plated Andrew Pittman on a ground out , and first baseman Danny Nobbs fined a single back up the middle that struck Red Devils’ pitcher Chris Cheshire in the back and cut the deficit to 3-2.
