“Growing up in the Rappahannock I knew was a very nurturing place," Nichols said. “Everyone knew everyone else, or knew of them.
“Having skiing, canoeing, clitnhing and hiking — not to mention biking - right outside your door was very conducive to developing a serious love of the outdoors,” he explained. “Back then, most people were accepting of you walking across their property to access the mountains and streams as long as you closed gates and didn’t let the cows out.
“That environment set the stage for what Shenandoah Mountain Guides does today.”
Through SMG and Teamlink, which is the student and corporate team-building component of the business, Nichols’ outfit has used outdoor activities to assist companies on cooperative problem solving and communication. They also work with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, churches, schools, colleges, lead educational trips and guided adventures and teach outdoor skills and leadership training
