There was some discussion that possibly additional fees could be imposed for speeding in the'town.
Council member John Sullivan again shared information as he had done at the July meeting about traffic calming devices that he had noticed when visiting Woodstock, Vermont and Aspen. There rubber stanchions attached to the middle of the street were, according to Sullivan, low cost, worth looking at and were successful in getting people in those areas to slow down.
A recent study completed by the Virginia Department of Transportation in June of this year recommended two methods for slowing down traffic. One is the flashing LED stop light and the other are speed bars (either painted on the street or adhered with tape). Both methods were found to be effective in slowing traffic down. However, in the use of the flashing LED stop light, it was tested in areas proven to have a high crash rate.
