A severe drought thin summer is scorching hay fields and damaging alfalfa crops, but there is a silver lining in Rappahannock County’s rain shortage.
Several of the county’s vintners are reporting beautiful, sugary, disease-free grape crops as a result of the drought. Barring any hail storms or hurricanes before the harvest, 2007 may be remembered as a year of fine vintages.
