Barack Obama and John McCain were the overall winners in Virginia’s presidential primaries and in Rappahannock County on Tuesday.
Obama garnered nearly 60 percent of the 1,300 votes cast in Rappahannock in the Democratic Primary. The U.S. Senator from Illinois won all six precincts in the county. Hillary Clinton finished second in the county with about 40 percent of the
Democrats Juhn Edwards. Dennis J. Kucinich and doe Biden each received less than 1 percent of the votes.
Obama’s best results in Rappahannock were in Washington, where he took 66 percent of the votes. His closest contest in the county was in Amissville, where he won less than 53 percent of the votes.
Obama also won the Virginia Democratic primary on Tuesday with 64 percent of the statewide votes, easily defeating Hillary Clinton, who took 35 percent.
Obama also won primaries in Maryland and the District of Columbia to overtake Clinton in the candidates' total number of delegates won toward earning the party’s nomination. According to Associated Press estimates. Obama has 1,210 delegates to Clinton's 1,188. The winning Democratic
