Wakefield Country Day School’s male athlete for January is eighth grader Brian Shafran.
“Brian Shafran is someone who has had to perform under fire this season, with no previous experience at the varsity level,” said Wakefield athletic director Mike Kenney. “He has been asked to undertake challenges normally reserved for older athletes and has played admirably, helping to lead WCDS to some recent key victories. As the team has looked for another proven scorer, Brian has accomplished that feat commendably, increasing his scoring load and going over the 20-point mark three times in the past month.”
Wakefield’s joint female athletes for the month of January are dance team members Joy Heddleston and Cynthia Rodriguez.
“These two young ladies have taken on roles of not only performing, but also providing leadership and instruction to their teammates,” noted Kenney. “Their hard work and determination are exemplified by their being named Second. Team . All-Conference at the Delaney Athletic Conference championships held this month at Fredericksburg Academy.”
